Garda Vetting Requirements for Membership

Garda Vetting is a requirement for membership with CranioSacral Ireland, in line with the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016.

This legislation mandates that all therapists working with children or vulnerable persons must undergo Garda Vetting. CranioSacral Ireland is the only body authorised to process Garda Vetting for Craniosacral Therapists in Ireland.

Who is Defined Under the Act?

  • A child is defined as a person under 18 years of age.
  • A vulnerable person refers to an individual (other than a child) who:
    • has a mental health disorder, including illness or dementia
    • has an intellectual disability
    • has a physical impairment due to injury, illness, age, or disability

Purpose of Garda Vetting

The purpose of Garda Vetting is to identify any convictions or relevant information held on record by An Garda Síochána that may affect a person’s suitability to work with children or vulnerable adults. Garda Vetting is only conducted for persons applying to work with, or through, registered organisations — not individuals on a personal basis.

Vetting Process Through CranioSacral Ireland

CranioSacral Ireland uses the Garda eVetting system. Once Garda Vetting is purchased as part of your membership application, the following steps occur:

  1. You complete a Vetting Invitation Form and submit proof of identity and address.
  2. CranioSacral Ireland validates your documentation and sends you a link to complete your online Vetting Application Form.
  3. You submit your vetting form electronically via the eVetting portal.
  4. The National Vetting Bureau processes the application and sends a vetting disclosure to CranioSacral Ireland.
  5. CranioSacral Ireland reviews the disclosure and provides a copy to you.
